The Tamiya German Sd.Kfz 250/3 Greif Ltd (HC-35113) represents the famous light armoured personnel carrier variant associated with General Erwin Rommel’s North Africa campaign. Based on the 1-ton half-track, the Sd.Kfz 250 combined mobility with protection, making it a versatile platform for multiple battlefield roles.

Historical Background

The Sd.Kfz 250 featured 14.5mm thick front armour and 8mm side armour. To reduce weight, the first torsion bar shaft was removed, resulting in one fewer pair of track rollers than the original vehicle. The 250 chassis was adapted into numerous configurations; among the most recognised was the 250/3 command variant.

Rommel’s 250/3, known as Greif (“Griffin”), served in North Africa and took part in the Battle of Tobruk in June 1942. The name Greif was painted on the vehicle’s sides, referencing the winged creature from Greek mythology.
