The Tamiya Tyrrell 003 1971 Monaco model kit (HC-12054) recreates the famous Grand Prix-winning car as it appeared at the Monaco GP in 1971. Using previous Tamiya Tyrrell 003 kits as a foundation, this edition introduces all-new parts to authentically depict the Monaco-specific configuration of the car.

About the Tyrrell 003

After entering Formula One in 1968 with the Matra Ford, Tyrrell quickly rose to prominence, securing a drivers’ championship for Jackie Stewart the following year. From the 11th race of the 1970 season in Canada, the team unveiled its in-house Tyrrell 001, laying the groundwork for the 002 and 003 used in 1971 by François Cevert and Jackie Stewart respectively. An integrated front wing and nose design made the 003 instantly recognisable, while the chassis remained an orthodox and reliable performer. Stewart achieved six wins in eleven races in 1971, including Monaco, delivering both drivers’ and constructors’ titles for Tyrrell.

Kit Overview

  • Based on past Tamiya Tyrrell 003 models with updates specific to the Monaco GP 1971 car.

Why This Subject Matters

The 1971 Monaco GP is an enduring highlight of early 1970s Formula One, and the Tyrrell 003 is central to that story. This kit captures the look of the race-winning machine from Jackie Stewart’s title-winning season, making it a compelling project for enthusiasts of classic F1 engineering and motorsport history.

Whether you are a Tamiya collector or a motorsport fan, the HC-12054 Tyrrell 003 1971 Monaco kit offers a focused build that celebrates a milestone year for Tyrrell and one of Formula One’s most iconic street circuits.

This F-1 model kit uses past Tamiya Tyrrell 003 models as a base, and features all-new parts to depict the 003 as it appeared in the Monaco GP of 1971.

The Tyrrell team made their Formula One entrance in 1968 using the Matra Ford and quickly achieved excellent results, with a drivers’ championship for Jackie Stewart the next season. From the 11th race of 1970 F-1 season in Canada, the team introduced the in-house designed 001, which paved the way for the 003 and 002 cars piloted in 1971 by Jackie Stewart and F. Cevert respectively. While a unique integrated front wing and nose caught everyone’s attention, the Tyrrell 003 chassis at heart was an orthodox, reliable design. Stewart achieved 6 wins in 11 races including the Monaco GP, more than enough for that season’s drivers’ and constructors’ titles.
