His Hurricane famously featured artwork depicting a skeletal Grim Reaper pointing towards the enemy, as well as a 242 Squadron flying boot kicking Hitler on the lower cowl. The unique underside “White/Night” scheme was designed to enable easy identification between friend or foe by England-based anti-aircraft gunners during early 1940.
