Entering service with the Soviet Army in 1961, the T-62 was equipped with a 115 mm smoothbore main gun capable of a rate of fire of around four rounds per minute. Approximately 20,000 were produced up to 1975, and the type saw action in multiple conflicts, including Afghanistan, the Yom Kippur War, the Gulf War, Syria and Libya.
