Description

The Kyosho Optima Pro Legendary Series Kit (K.30620) brings back the iconic rear-motor 1/10 scale 4WD buggy with carefully considered modern updates. First launched in 1987 as the pinnacle of the Optima line, this Vintage Series re-release preserves the ladder-frame architecture and timeless slim aero body while refining weight distribution and electronics placement for today’s R/C systems and power sources.

A belt-driven 4WD system—previously an option—now comes standard alongside a strengthened gearbox, a modern radio plate, and the works-style gunmetal finish on key aluminium components including the oil shocks. The result is a faithful revival with improved efficiency, durability, and serviceability while retaining the original spirit of the Optima Pro.

Specifications

From Kyosho’s legendary rear motor Optima Series Comes the triumphant return of the Optima Pro! From its debut in 1985 the Kyosho Optima 1/10 scale electric 4WD buggy quickly established itself as a top-level competition model. The innovative design featured a ladder frame with rear motor layout like the 2WD Scorpion series but incorporated a chain drive to the front wheels. The pinnacle of the Optima series evolution was the Optima Pro released in 1987. Retaining the frame and drive system, the relaunch of the Optima Pro uses the advanced slim aero body and underbody form with revised mounting positions of the battery and steering servo to improve weight distribution and concentrate heavy components in the center of the chassis for significant performance improvements. After 37 years, the Optima Pro is making its long-awaited comeback as the 15th model of the Kyosho Vintage Series. Like other Vintage Series models, it retains the same basic design but with updates that match each component to modern R/C systems and power sources. These functional components are unique to the modern version of the Optima Pro. The frame is a traditional ladder tube type incorporating a belt-driven 4WD system, which was an option on the original, and a gearbox with increased durability. The modernized radio plate mounts the battery and R/C components and is unique to the modern Optima Pro. Major aluminum parts, including the front and rear oil shocks, have a gunmetal finish that was a signature color of the Kyosho works team at the time. The Optima’s timeless slimline body and underbody design delivers enhanced aerodynamic performance. Although the original version had a short sales period of only about six months, the revival of Optima Pro will make the Kyosho Vintage series even more exciting for years to come as the ultimate rear-motor powered Optima.
  • Reproduction of this legendary rear-motor 4WD buggy is enhanced with the latest technology to become the 15th model of the Kyosho Vintage series.
  • Stylish and aerodynamic body and underbody faithfully capture the look and spirit the original.
  • Cut lines for attaching the Javelin wing are molded into the body.
  • Belt-type 4WD system produces excellent drive efficiency and reliability. Can be changed to chain-drive by switching to (OT226) chain (sold separately).
  • Uses current standard 48-pitch pinion & spur gear, different to the original.
  • Equipped with a slipper clutch to support high output motors and prevent gear damage.
  • Molded resin radio plate recreates the form of the original.
  • Battery is secured using a hook-and-loop fastener and is suitable for modern battery sizes.
  • Drive system includes ball bearings throughout.
  • Hex screws deliver improved efficiency and appearance.
  • Compatible with various optional parts for the Vintage Series.
  • Each part is compatible with the original model and spare parts from the original model can also be used.

Any idea on what paint would match the box art yellow?
Greg / 20th March 2025

For the Kyosho Optima Pro, the yellow color used in the box art and replica paint schemes is often Tamiya PS-19 Camel Yellow. Here's a more detailed breakdown:

  • Tamiya PS-19 Camel Yellow: This is the primary yellow used for the body and other parts.
  • Tamiya PS-13 Gold & Yellow Pinstripes: This is used for the pinstripes and accents.
  • Other Colors: The Optima Pro also features Tamiya PS-12 Silver and PS-6 Bright Yellow.
  • Box Art: The box art for the Optima Pro shows a yellow that is not a bright yellow, it's more of a milky yellow.
