The Seagull PT-22 Ryan Recruit 1/4 Scale (SEA-288), part number 5500023, is a large-scale ARTF model that captures the classic open-cockpit character of the iconic WWII-era trainer. With a 2,300mm (90in) wingspan and beautifully finished scale detailing, it’s aimed at intermediate to advanced pilots who value smooth handling and period authenticity.

Lightweight balsa and plywood construction is complemented by a factory-painted fibreglass cowl, functional flaps and a scale cockpit with pilot figures. Designed for 30–45cc petrol engines or a high-power electric conversion, the model offers predictable, stable flight—ideal for scale cruising, touch-and-gos and relaxed aerobatics.

Inspired by the original Ryan PT-22 Recruit used by the United States Army Air Corps in the early 1940s, this replica reflects the distinctive inline-engine profile, wire-braced wings and open cockpit that made the full-size trainer a favourite among cadets and instructors.

About the original:

Known for its unique inline engine, wire-braced wings, and open cockpit, it served as a primary trainer for thousands of WWII pilots.
