The HPI Nitro Star F3.5 V2 Engine with Pullstart (HPI-111600) is an updated .21-class powerplant engineered for stronger cooling, durability and easy starting. A redesigned crankcase and taller heatsink with larger fins shed heat more effectively, while trimming 22 g from the assembly. The latest pullstart utilises a one-way bearing housed in a robust 14 mm hex for improved longevity. With 2.5 horsepower on tap and race-legal .21 displacement, the F3.5 V2 delivers eye-opening acceleration and high top speeds at the bash spot or club track.

Tuning is straightforward thanks to a two-needle carburettor that lets you dial in performance for weather and fuel, and the composite carb body helps resist heat soak to reduce fuel vapourisation. Internally, true ABC construction pairs a chrome-plated brass piston and sleeve with a lightweight aluminium crankcase for long service life. A tough pullstarter is fitted as standard, and intake protection is boosted by a 2-stage air filter with a splash cover to help keep water out when running in wet conditions.

The F3.5 V2 features a new crankcase and heatsink design with larger heatsink fins for improved cooling. This new design makes the engine 22g lighter and 4mm taller. A new pullstart utilises a one-way bearing encased in a large 14mm hex for increased durability.

The F3.5 engine will give you eye-opening acceleration and crazy top speeds! The engine is started by a simple pullstarter system and the two-needle carburettor allows you to fine-tune the performance for any kind of weather or fuel.

One added benefit of the Nitro Star F3.5 is that its a race-legal .21-size engine, which means you can drop down to your local track or club and enter in a race as soon as you open the box! I'm looking for a more reliable and easy to tune replacement for savage xl k5.9 engine and wondered if this will work, I get the power and torque will be less but hoping for something that's not as temperamental
Adin / 13th January 2026

It will fit but nitro is nitro so we would not say one engine is more reliable than the other it is always down to the tune and the individual engine.
